Carriers in Mexico?

I am in Puerto Vallarta. I purchased a GB of Mexico data. It works but the performance is terrible.
I have left Network Selection setting on Automatic and the carrier shown is Telcel.

Is it acceptable to change the Network Selection setting to manual and choose a different carrier? Will that affect my billing other than normal data usage? Can you recommend an alternate carrier? Choices are AT&T (twice), Movistar, 334 140, and the current TELCEL

    It will only allow you to connect to carriers with which Lum has an agreement. You should not get charged extra.
