On new 5G plan, iPhone 12, the 5G switches to 3G when making or receiving a call
New activation on the new 5G plan here. I have VoLTE enabled on the iPhone 12. When I make or receive a call I see the little indicator flip to 3G during the call, and internet is super slow while on a call. As soon as you hang up, it flips back to 5G. This also happens if I set the Cell Data to LTE. It flips to 3G during call, then back to LTE once call is complete.
I have tried turning VoLTE off and on several times, rebooted the iPhone, and tried airplane mode on and off a few times as well.
3G is supposed to be switched off in 2025, so I'd like to figure this one out.
Anything else I can try? Is there a missing "feature" on Lum Mobile's end?

Check it you have the option to manually turn on VoLTE in your settings.
Also try toggling airplane mode. That might force it to register. Or just give it time. It can take time to register as well. Do report back your results.

Thanks H-Man,
Yes - Time and patience resolved this. Must be some back-end processes that still need to occur on a fresh sim activation before 5G is fully operational. All good now :)

I guess I just needed to wait several more hours. This problem has resolved itself. Now 5G stays active while making calls and doesn’t switch to 3G anymore.
