New Plans FAQ's
As many of you are aware we have launched new plans. We have 7 new plans to offer ranging from 1 year 3 month and 1 month durations.
Here’s a few things included with all the plans:
- They are fast – every plan has 5G speed and no throttles!
- Unlimited calling and texting within Canada and to the U.S.
- Rollover data – any unused data at the end of your membership automatically rolls over once into your next membership
We have answered some questions that have come in from the change. Take a look!

Third bullet was always part of the plans…so not a new "feature".

Can someone confirm, with "unlimited calling and texting", does this mean that calling and texting no longer count for data consumption, or they still count and it's just that when data is exhausted, they keep working regardless?

Hello @Eisbar , with the new plans unlimited talk and text is defined as "Unlimited calling and texting from anywhere in Canada to any Canadian or U.S. number."
The discontinued plans used data deductions to talk and text, unless the Talk and Text add-on was purchased.
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks,
The Lüm Team

There should be a plan with a lower price and lower data usage. I've had the same data for multiple years, I don't need 150GB at my next renewal when I've not finished 25 in 3 years.

I agree with Mr. Kyle, I think a plan for 60gb for $250, or 30gb for $200 for the year would much appreciated. This is a plan I think most people who use Lum would want.

I wish there were lower gig plans. The lowest is 150g for $300 which is more expensive

Agreed, so far I've used 13GB in 10 months, I have no need of a 150GB plan. That was one of the things that drew me to Lum in the first place as everyone else wanted to charge me more money for more data than I would ever use. If there is no lower-cost membership option anymore then I'm going to start looking around at other providers again.

I LIKE THE CONCEPT OF YOUR PLANS AND MEMBERSHIP. USE, WHAT YOU NEED ESPECIALLY THE DATA. I'M NOT A BIG USER OF DATA SO I APPRECIATE THIS PLAN. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS A TALK TEXT PLAN FOR THE USA AND NOT A USA DATA PLAN ONLY FOR TALK AND TEXT. I'M A SNOWBIRD AND WHEN YOU SPEND MONTHS IN THE USA THIS BECOMES VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE A TALK/TEXT PLAN IN THE USA. WHY CAN'T LUM HAVE A SIMPLE PLAN APPROACH TO TALK/TEXT WHILE IN THE USA TO PHONE TO USA OR CANADIAN PHONE NUMBERS?
I'M CONSIDERING SWITCHING MY MOBILE TO THEM. THEY JUST DON'T CARE WHERE YOU ARE.

@pep you can purchase a 1GB USA plan for $15 or 3GB for $45. This will give you 1000 minutes or 3000 minutes of calling in North America respectively.
This data also never expires as long as you stay with Lüm. This can be quite practical for snowbirds who just want to keep their Canadian number active for staying in touch.
The data never expires until you use it completely. If you use it for calling only, you will have a 1000 minutes of calling for $15. That could last several months.
Remember, 1MB =1Min of calling.

h man. yes this is what we have purchased. but the roaming eats up a lot of your data plan. the service works great to talk and send texts. but a gig doesnt last long.
i wish there was a plan for unlimited data or offer a talk/text plan for a fee while in the united states.

I think a plan for 60gb for $250, or 30gb for $200 for the year would much appreciated.
Chatr has an annual $150 plan that includes unlimited Canada wide calling, unlimited Canada/US texting, 30GB of 4G data, rate limited unlimited data, and voicemail.
I use 6GB of data per year. Why should I stay with Lum?

Appears 0 data membership is gone. Can't find a subscription < 10GB/month now. Am I missing something?

Yeah the sentiment in that thread pretty well sums up my feelings.
This isn't the membership + data model that got me to switch to Lum. That's ok, new plans that combine membership and data actually simplifies things and would have made me more likely to recommend it to friends. And I am ok with prices going up over time. But it really sucks for those of us that just topped up on data. Feels like my data/$ is being stolen from me.If I was moving to Lum today I would be ok with a ~$25/month plan and never having to worry about data again. But to effectively loose >$100 in data I topped up on last year really sours me on Lum. I trusted Lum, and this move shatters that trust.
Lum should really do better by the customers that supported them from the beginning. They really need to provide a better way of transitioning existing customers. Keep providing a 0GB membership, grandfather in 0GB memberships for an extended period, offer data buybacks with account credit for those that purchased bulk data, ... I am sure there are more ways this could be done fairly and I realize there are other considerations of billing complexity etc with some of my suggestions. But to completely upend the model and provide no compensation for those of us that invested in the old model feels like a pretty blatant disregard for current customers.
As is my confidence in Lum is in pieces, guess I am re-evaluating my cell provider. And for the same price Lum is now at a disadvantage due to broken trust.

I’ve now lost the ability to buy 5gb and only use this phone as an emergency phone with these new plans. Back to the crtc $15 plans.

Yesterday Koodo added a $149 per 360 day prepaid plan with 30GB of 4G data, unlimited calling, unlimited texting, and voicemail. That makes the new Lum plans a lot more expensive than the competition for low consumption users.

This change is pretty bad for low data usage members. What a shame that Lum is treating loyal members this way.

Get a kick out of their pathetic explanation 'that the SMALL print stated we could not get refunds on purchased data'. I read the small print but if your making us suck up the 95 GB for $200, maybe the real question should be is why didn't LUM adhere to the LARGE print? As I recall those specifications on refunds were pertaining to $180.00 per year for the plan. This policy gives SaskTel a black eye and in the future they will pay for this shifty policy change.
