No Low Use New Plans?

Just saw the new plans, and there seems to be no options at all for people who don't use much data — the entire selling point of Lum in the first place for me. As someone on a 3 month renewal who uses under 2GB a month, as it stands, my bill is going to increase by 50%, and all i'm going to get is 15x more data than I will ever use? My rollovers are going to be hilariously pointless now, i'll be rolling over an additional 35gb every single renewal on the lowest tier plan you have.…

Lum has basically rolled out plans like every other carrier, and yet is trying to pass it off as an exciting new thing for everyone?

    Agree with everyone here.

The major selling point of Lum was having a subscription fee and then paying for data on top of that. Rolling the data into the subscription fee is just a price increase to any of us who wont use the 150GB a year.

With other plans out there that offer 50GB a month, Canada-US calling and texting AND voice mail for $35-40/mo, I think I'll be changing over once my yearly subscription is up.

    Too bad. Lum had potential.

This is wild! We moved FOUR phone numbers to Lum last year and pre-bought 95GB for three of them. I have over $500 of data left that will be lost. Ok, so I can roll it over once but I am still forced to buy new data with my membership renewal. Lum is solely owned by SaskTel. This can be dealt with politically. I committed way too much to have this lost. Small claims court anyone? We have about three more years worth of data on each phone. BOOO LUM!

Hi Lum Staff. I think you have missed the point and need to reinstate a legacy "membership" option. Membership being access to the network only, for $180/year, as it was. Lum please respond.

Assuming Lum staff work Monday - Thursday, they waited until the end of their work week to send out this change. I'll bet no one responds to this thread until next week. Come on Lum, you convinced some of us that you were the new way and the better option. It's time to deliver again! Either that, or buy back all my data, my wife's data, and each of my daughters' data. We pay enough tax in Saskatchewan. Buying a data block in advance that you said will "never expire", and then changing the plan on me and keeping my money, is just another tax. Thanks for nothing! This might be worth a drive to Regina to SaskTel Mobility headquarters to talk to someone making these outrageous changes without thinking of those that have pre-paid money for the service.

    Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback, we're really sorry you feel this way.

For those of you who use low data we still have great low cost options for you!

You can get the 1 year membership plan with 150 GB of 5G data for $300.  That's like paying only $25/mo.  Plus it includes unlimited calling and texting in Canada and to the U.S. and there's no extra 911 fees like our old memberships.

For those of you have 3 month memberships and using 2GB a month, you're currently paying $30/month, plus 911 fees.

We're still among the cheapest rates you can get and all our plans are 5G speed now!

For those of you with an existing data balance - that will NEVER expire!  We sold it to you that way and we have stuck to our word.

Please bring back the old plans. The new way isn't as cost effective for us. We don't want to have to leave Lum.

I agree, I just checked, and my data usage for the past 30 days was under 4 GB. And I wasn't being careful about how I used it or anything, that is just about how much I need in my everyday life. The cheapest 3 month membership (I have been auto-renewing at the three month rate) is 13 GB per month more than 3x what I would use. I would be more okay with this change if there were more options for low data users. I just referred my sister to Lum, and she probably would use less than 1 GB per month, this is likely no longer a good fit for her.

Unfortunately, I have to renew in 9 days, and I don't like any of my options.

Also, If you read the fine print, you can only roll-over data once, and the top-ups can't be rolled over, so I will be loosing lots of data.

I'm honestly ok with this - it's still cheaper than almost anyone else out there. i don't use barely any data. if i can still get this for $25 i'm happy.

There’s no way I’m going to use 150Gb of data every year

What about creating 4G speeds plans at a reduced price? Or yearly plans that have, say, 25 or 50Gb?

Way to go Sasktel(oops I mean't LUM). Had to go and ruin a good thing. No option to grandfather in either. Nice.

    Hello Everyone,

We understand that the recent changes may feel frustrating if you don’t use a lot of data. The 1 year plan that’s like paying $25 per month, along with others, provide a generous amount of data, ensuring it’s available when you need it. While the old plans didn’t expire data, the new ones have the added benefit of rolling over unused data to the next period and have a bunch of extra value options included like the elimination of 911 fees, talk and text unlimited included and access to 5G speeds.

For those who might use more than expected, the top-up option is there as a safety net. If you’re a light data user, you likely won’t need these extras.

We’re always striving to offer the best value for a large customer base and have received feedback from customers that our plans don’t suit those who are average to high data users.

Just to be clear, the data purchased with the discontinued plans still don’t expire, even when you migrate to the new ones.

    Thanks,

    Lum Support

I feel I’ve been ripped off!!! Bought 3 years worth of data for 2 phones, now I get to use it for one year and the rest gets taken away.
welcome to Lum where your data doesn’t expire, oh wait we now we have your money and we changed our mind.
    I’ve been scammed!!!!

I'm sorry Lum Support but your posts make no sense. Why on Earth would I care about getting 150GB a year when I only use, at most, 1GB a month? Why would I care about unlimited calling and texting when I do neither of those things very often? I left my old provider because they only offered those kinds of plans and Lum gave me the straight-forward basic plan that exactly met my needs with no unnecessary extras. Now you're just like everyone else and it makes me sad.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who might appreciate the new plans and are happy you're offering them now. But I'm not one of them. I want my old plan back.

This change essentially defeats the original sales pitch of Lüm. If I needed 150Gb at 5G speeds I wouldn't have signed up for Lüm in the first place.

With topups no longer rolling over, it also discourages users from buying in bulk to save. Even heavy data users would be negatively impacted.

I can't understand who this change is supposed to be a positive for. I still have several months left on my membership thankfully, but once it comes time to renew I unfortunately will start looking elsewhere for mobile service again. I had really hoped Lüm would keep the lead for longer.

I agree with all of the above! Lum is going the same way as every other provider very dissappointing

    Hi Lum,

I really think you need to reconsider this roll out. I also think you need to respond to these concerns. These concerns are valid. There are many of us that adopted your model of buying membership (access to the network) separately from data and bought significant data in advance, anticipating it to last for years. In the current cost of living fight that many of us are having, you have slapped us in the face.

I believe there's a legal issue here as well, with Lum being in breach of contract. Please reconsider keeping legacy customers with legacy membership options. Also, please respond, and legitimately respond, addressing real people's real concerns.

    Thank-you.

Like several people in this thread, I bought a lot of GB when I joined thinking I could get by for a second year without buying new data. I would have been able to use it. I was given four days notice to figure it all out - including a weekend, so no staff to communicate with. For the low end users, it is a 10% increase.

Lum….150GB/year IS NOT a low data option. That's probably 10x what my kids need, and now I'm paying almost an extra $100/year for this "feature"?!? Pound sand Lum.

All Lum needs to do is offer a $200 membership option that rolls over the previous data that we purchased. Let legacy data that was purchased before the change be used up.

Next - provide users with a lower tier GB amount. Say 75 gig for $250 a year would be reasonable. This would win back a lot of the customers that you have alienated by changing your target market

Count me among people specifically using Lum for the low data options. For those of us who purchased a lot of data to ration out, this plan represents a significant price increase over what was expected. I use < 1 GB / month and am not interested in paying for data that I will never use.

I want to support Sasktel but when it comes time to renew in 3 weeks I will be looking around to see if there are other carriers that cater to my specific needs.

All good points. For low data users the new plans are more expensive. No way around that. Nice while it lasted . . .
