Lüm now has Wi-Fi Calling! This means you can keep calling and texting even when there’s little or no cell coverage!
Set it up on your iPhone and we take care of the rest. Your phone will switch to Wi-Fi Calling for your calls and texts whenever you are connected to Wi-Fi and have zero or poor cell signal when you're within Canada. It’s that simple!
🚩Even when you use Wi-Fi calling, you still connect to the cellular network to make that phone call. This can be confusing for Lüm because your calls are rated as data. Although the phone call uses Wi-Fi calling, it still uses that cellular network; and is billed the same as a standard call. If you have the Unlimited Talk & Text add-on, then the call would still be included in that. Learn more about our plans here.

🚩 Keep your emergency address up to date or be able to explain your exact location to a 9-1-1 operator as they cannot see your location when on Wi-Fi calling. No seriously, they can’t! Just follow the same steps above except, click Update Emergency Address. Don’t worry, we have some detailed instructions at the bottom of this page.
If you’re the type of person that likes a little more information, we can provide that too. Check out these FAQ’s.
What is Wi-Fi Calling?
Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive voice calls and send and receive text messages over a Wi-Fi connection when the cellular signal is poor or non-existent.
One common misconception about Wi-Fi Calling is that it's entirely free, but it's important to note that when you make a call or text using Wi-Fi Calling, the call minutes and texts used are still deducted from your data balance unless you have the Talk & Text add-on.
What do I need to use Wi-Fi Calling?
You’ll need a Wi-Fi connection, compatible phone, SIM, and the Wi-Fi Calling feature set up on your phone (check out the instructions under ‘Ready to Get Started?’ above).
Note: Some Wi-Fi connections block Wi-Fi calling (also called VoIP... so many names, such little time).
How much does it cost?
All incoming and outgoing calls and texts from Canada to Canada, U.S. or Mexico using Wi-Fi Calling will come out of your data balance unless you have the Talk & Text add-on.
🚩 Wi-Fi Calling cannot be used outside of Canada.
How does 9-1-1 work?
If you call 9-1-1 while using Wi-Fi Calling, your phone will send the 9-1-1 Emergency Address you provided for your phone when you set up Wi-Fi calling. If the location of your emergency is different than this address, you must inform the operator of your location.
You can update your emergency location based on your Wi-Fi connection. It’s the same as setting up your Wi-Fi calling but you tap Update Emergency Address. Here is the run down.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Cellular.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
- Tap Update Emergency Address.
- Enter an address for 9-1-1 calls.
If your street address doesn't show up OR you don't have a street address (with a building number and street name):
- Enter your postal code.
- Choose your community.
- Tap the Edit icon
- Enter an address for 9-1-1 calls and enter your full street address or land location in the Street Name field.
- Tap Save.
- Optional: Add more details in the field for Additional Information.
- Review the address displayed on your screen and tap Save if it's correct.
- Tap Save.
How do I know if I am using Wi-Fi to make a call?
The top banner of your phone will show as Lum Wi-Fi. For some phones you may need to swipe down to view this information.
